Why Finding Work Today Is So Hard And What You Can Do To Be The One To Be Given The Employment Opportunity

The current economy and recession is the worst it has been since the great depression many years ago. For the first time in history, huge corporations are clsoing down and so many people are being laid off from their jobs that the unemployment rate is the highest it has ever been since the depression. This has caused many people to try to find any kind of work they can, even if they are overqualified for it. For example, it is not uncommon to find a former white collar professional turning to the more reliable work of operating a prepress equipment and CTP in order to make some money. This has made applying for jobs an very competitive one.

Just a decade ago ago it would be a surprise to see someone with a college degree and years of professional work experience under their belt doing a job such as a cashier at a store, or a truck delivery person for a fast food chain of restaurants. Now that is all too common, as many Americans are trying to get whatever employment they can after being laid off from their well paying jobs.

In an eye opening revelation, one such man who had 2 four year college degrees and was a head of a company before and is now driving a night shift truck making deliveries, is thankful to be doing the work he is doing and says it changed his entire attitude. He claimed before this, he looked down on people that had these kind of jobs and felt that he was better than them. Now after having had to do that kind of work himself, it has opened his eyes to the fact that no one is better than anyone else and all employees work hard at every job they do and he is so thankful for having learned this lesson.

Job openings have also now become a crowded event attracting thousands of applicants many times. The amount of people that turn up to apply for a job creates greater competition. Older people are worried that their age will be a reason of not getting hired over the years of experience they have. While younger applicants just starting out after graduating from school are having a hard time competing with those that have work experience to offer. It is quite common to see employers hiring workers that are overqualified for a job and may even be more qualified than the supervisors that hired them.

In order to compete in this difficult job market and to get noticed by a company that is hiring; you should be ready to impress during the interview. Make certain to dress in appropriate business attire like a suit or nice slacks and a blouse and practice the the nonverbal communication gestures such as having a firm handshake, good eye contact and a positive, confidant attitude. The non-verbal cues that you give off are as imperative as what you say in an interview.
